§ 1.5-501. Selection of employee applicants.

    No employee applicants will be considered for a position with the city unless they meet the minimum qualifications of the position for which they have applied.

    b.

    Employee applicants shall be selected on the basis of merit and qualifications for the position for which they have applied, with due consideration for their previous education, training, and work experience, without regard for and free of prejudice, discrimination, favoritism, or political considerations.

    c.

    The city may provide for use of a veterans' preference consistent with general law upon approval of a policy regarding same by the city council.

    d.

    The department of human resources shall be responsible for coordination of the employee selection process in conjunction with the relevant city department having a position vacancy. The department of human resources shall develop and conduct an orientation process for new employees, and shall promulgate policies and procedures as required pertaining to the hiring, in-processing and orientation of new employees, and transfer or promotion of existing employees to city department vacancies. Said policies and procedures shall be reduced to writing in summary form, available for public inspection, approved by the finance and administration committee, who shall also approve amendments to same as may be required from time to time, and said policies and procedures shall be incorporated as a separate section or subsection in the appendix to the Official Code.
